Lemons are one of those fruits that don’t have the same glamorous images as strawberries (dipped in chocolate are a common symbol of love, romance and eroticism), or apples (with all its religious undertones), or grapes (feeding them to the historically powerful), and so on.

Lemons? The most common adage is “You look like you just sucked on a lemon” which is never meant as a compliment. But this fruit is stoic and steady. It is powerful and those of us smart enough to have researched natural health and beauty tricks know the quiet power of this yellow fruit.

Here are the three reasons why you should learn to love lemons:

  1. Detox and physical health.
A cup of warm water with half a lemon squeezed into it first thing in the morning (before coffee, snacks or anything else) has amazing health benefits. For this simple tweak to your daily routine you can expect these amazing benefits:

    • The high vitamin C content pumps up your immune system and helps stave off those pesky 100-day colds that seem to dominate our western winters.
    • Decreases toxins in your body and cleanses the liver because the liver can make more enzymes out of lemons than any other food.
    • Reduces the amount of phlegm that your body produces (especially when mixed with some honey.)

  2. Beautify your skin.

    • The glass of warm water with the half lemon squeezed in provides a great blast of hydration first thing which is good for your skin’s overall health.
    • Lemon water helps keep you hydrated and your skin glowing.
    • The vitamin C rich lemons assist in the production of your body’s collagen which helps prevent wrinkles from forming.

  3. Half a lemon with a sprinkling of white sugar used as a natural scrub for the skin. Rub the sugar sprinkled lemon on your face in a gentle circular motion for about thirty seconds, then rinse off with lukewarm water before applying your moisturizer. Repeat 2-3 times per week and watch the amazing results.

    • This will gently exfoliate your skin and is good for even the most sensitive skin types.
    • Acts as a natural brightener and helps to even out skin tones and fade those age spots (aka too much exposure to sun).
    • Can help lighten acne and other scars.

Lemons are inexpensive and plentiful. Use them wisely and discover a healthier and more glowing version of yourself in only a couple of minutes a day.
